If a perfume sample box is over budget, we can compare the outer box materials while keeping the drawer opening and fitted EVA foam insert. Changing the board does not have to mean redesigning the whole kit.
A buyer recently asked us for 250 sets, each holding five 5 mL vials. They wanted black-and-gold marble artwork, a gold foil logo and a fitted insert. We discussed a paperboard drawer with EVA as an option. The project was still at the quote and sample stage.
Keep the opening and compare the outer materials
The buyer liked the sliding drawer. That did not mean the box had to use thick, paper-wrapped rigid board. A folded paperboard sleeve and tray was another route to review.
The difference is in how the parts are made. Paperboard is cut, creased and folded. A rigid drawer uses a thicker board core covered with paper. The Paperboard Packaging Council explains these two constructions.
For a fair quote, keep the same vials, layout and insert in both options. Then compare the outer box, rather than changing several things at once. You can review our folding-carton options and rigid drawer boxes for the two routes.
Printed gold and gold foil are different jobs
A gold-colored marble pattern can be printed. A logo that reflects light needs a separate foil area.
We separated those details in the brief so the finish was clear: print the marble artwork, then quote the foil logo. The proof should show exactly where the foil goes. A gold-colored line in a mockup does not tell the printer which process to use.
The insert still needs the actual vials

This example shows five separate positions. For the buyer's kit, we still needed to size the proposed EVA cutouts around the complete vials, including the sprayers and labels.
Check that each vial lifts out easily, its label does not catch, and the loaded tray slides back into the sleeve. Two vials sold as 5 mL can have different outside dimensions, so capacity alone is not enough.
Count bottles and labels separately from boxes
The same inquiry included a request for 500 labels. That quantity needed to stay separate from the number of sets.
250 sets × five vials = 1,250 vial positions. If every vial gets one label, that means 1,250 labels before any agreed extras. Five hundred labels might be for a smaller first batch or a separate use. We should confirm that, rather than assume the label order covers every set.
The quote should also say who supplies the vials, whether cards are included and who applies the labels. Those details affect the cost of the complete kit.
Check the full kit before approving production
Review the sample with the agreed vials, insert, print and foil together. Open the drawer, remove the vials and close it again. That is more useful than approving the empty box from a picture.
