Custom eyeshadow boxes should be developed around the finished, closed compact or palette, including its hinge, latch, mirror housing, and decoration. Start by clarifying whether you need an outer retail carton or a palette that directly holds cosmetic pans. Those are different projects with different interfaces and approval requirements.

Specify the outer carton as a separate component
Use a component diagram or photograph to show what the packaging supplier receives. The finished palette should already have its approved internal pan arrangement, closure, and product-contact construction. The outer box then needs to accommodate that complete object.
If you are asking for the palette body itself, say so explicitly. Pan retention, direct product contact, mirror installation, and the internal closure need a different development scope. A quotation for an outer carton should not be assumed to include those parts.

Measure the closed compact and its projections
Record the maximum closed length, width, and thickness. Include the hinge, latch, projecting logo, rounded corners, and any raised surface decoration. Note which side should face the carton opening and which face should remain visible when the product is removed.
For a thin palette, a small projection can determine whether the pack loads cleanly. A straight-sided drawing that ignores the hinge may describe the main body accurately while still missing the dimension that catches during insertion.
Send the filled product weight and explain whether an applicator is already inside the compact or must be packed separately. An extra brush added beside the palette changes the outer packaging layout even if the palette itself stays the same.
Review contact across the broad faces
A shallow outer box has large panels relative to its depth. Ask the developer where the finished palette will be supported and where pressure could reach the lid, mirror housing, latch, or hinge. The acceptable contact points should be checked against the actual compact construction.
Use a loaded sample to inspect broad-face contact, corner positioning, and the path through the opening. Confirm that the carton closes without bowing around a projection. Check the product decoration after repeated loading and removal under an agreed review plan.
Do not specify a paper thickness solely from the number of shades. A nine-shade palette can have a different footprint, filled weight, and compact construction from another nine-shade palette. The relevant inputs are the physical product and what the complete package must do.
Choose the opening around how the palette is handled
A tuck carton
Review: The direction of loading, the flap opening, and whether the palette can be grasped without catching the hinge or scraping decoration. Check that the compact stays closed during insertion and removal.
Useful decision: Which edge should lead into the carton, and can the packing team identify that orientation consistently?
An outer sleeve
Review: What prevents the finished palette from sliding out unintentionally, how the sleeve is removed, and whether exposed edges are acceptable for the sales channel. Fit must be checked with the decorated product.

A rigid presentation box
Review: The holding arrangement, product removal, closed height, and the additional space needed for the presentation structure. Include the actual compact and any separate accessories in the sample.
Useful decision: Does the presentation serve a defined gift or launch requirement? Price the full package, including its insert and shipping arrangement.
Inspect the product after agreed handling checks
Define the conditions that the packed palette needs to face with the product team and packaging developer. Keep the retail carton and the parcel packaging distinct in that discussion. An empty carton cannot show what happens to the filled palette inside it.
After the agreed checks, inspect the package in sequence. First record carton damage and product position before removing anything. Then check whether the compact is still closed, whether its hinge and latch operate, and whether the contents show damage when opened normally.
Record observations by component. A dented corner, a displaced compact, a broken latch, and a cracked powder pan are different findings. Ask the responsible teams to investigate the failure path rather than assuming that a thicker outer carton will resolve every problem.
Keep the palette identity readable and accurate
Choose where the collection name and variant appear when cartons are stocked in their intended orientation. Confirm that the carton, palette, and product information identify the same version. If several palettes share a structural size, the packing team still needs a clear way to match the correct carton to each product.
Printed shade images help communicate the collection, but do not treat them as a substitute for a controlled product reference. Agree on a print proof and review it under consistent conditions. Keep artwork approval separate from approval of the filled palette and the outer structure.

Plan the ecommerce shipment as a complete pack
For individual customer shipments, send the proposed retail carton and filled palette to the party developing the outer shipping pack. Specify the packed orientation and any additional products sharing the parcel.

Can one carton hold several palette versions
It can be considered when the finished dimensions and relevant construction are compatible. Check each version, including changes to hinges, decoration, weight, or accessories.
Will a rigid box prevent powder breakage
The structure name does not establish that result. Product construction, fit, support, and the distribution conditions all need to be considered in the evaluation.
Does the supplier need the filled palette
Use the final representative product for approval. An empty shell can help early development but may not represent the filled weight or the behavior of the completed product.
Brief the finished palette and its packaging separately
